Process Paper
I chose the Titanic for my History Day project because I have always
been interested in the Titanic, and I wanted to expand my knowledge. It
was not really a difficult decision; I really knew from the moment my teacher
talked about History Day that I wanted to do a project on the
Titanic.
I started my research by visiting the school library and checking out a book
on the Titanic. I also bought several books on my Kindle. After reading
those books I checked out several websites and also talked to my mom, who is a
fellow Titanic enthusiast and a history major.
Choosing a presentation category was fairly easy. Straight away the website
category seemed really hands on and exciting. I knew I wanted to make a website,
but I looked at all the other categories too to make sure I wasn’t missing out
on anything. After I had looked at all of the other categories, I decided I
definitely wanted to do a website, so I got started. The task of creating the
site was a bit daunting, but I dove right in. After completing research papers,
I started designing my website and gathering more details to support the data I
had already gathered. When I had the design finished and the pages ready to be
filled with information, I got the extra data I had been gathering and started
putting it onto my pages. It was very fun to get to personalize every little bit
of the website and I had a great time designing it.
The Titanic is a turning point in history because it was the end of the
Progressive Era, people’s eyes were really opened when it sank. They realized
that technology was not the answer to everything. The sinking of the Titanic
also signaled the rise of American power and the fall of British power, which
really is a turning point.
