Building The Titanic
The idea of the Titanic was born in 1907, but construction didn't actually start until March 31, 1909, in Belfast Ireland. It took three years to build the massive ship and cost a total of $7.5 million to be constructed... An amount of money about as big of the Titanic in that time. More than three thousand men were employed in the building of the Titanic. The White Star Line (the builders of the Titanic) advertised the mighty ship to be invincible from the very beginning. The Titanic was composed of sixteen compartments that were said to be watertight. The builders included steel doors that were supposed to close in 25 seconds, so in the situation that water was flowing into one compartment, the doors could be closed, preventing the water to seep into other compartments.
FUN FACT: Each engine in the Titanic was as big as a three story house!
